Lone Canary brought together three "birds of
a feather" when it comes to wine production and appreciation.
Mike Scott, an Englishman and former winemaker at Caterina Winery
was joined by Steve and Jeanne Schaub, local vineyardists and wine
enthusiasts to start the winery in 2002. For their logo and labels
they choose an artistic version of the American Goldfinch or Wild
Canary, the WA state bird. It represented their decision to feature
WA grapes in their wines and stand apart from the flock through
wines with a unique artistic expression.
The aromatic grapes from the Yakima valley in central WA take center stage at Lone Canary producing wines that are bright and complex with layers of flavors just waiting to be savored.
In Mike's words "I want Lone Canary wines to combine the wonderful expressiveness of Washington State grapes with the depth and elegance of wines made in an Old World style." In red wines, Lone Canary offers five distinct blends, the first three are each reflective of a different regional style. The fourth, an unusual varietal from the Washington grown Barbera grape and the fifth a DuBrul Vineyard specialty. The signature wine from Lone Canary is a Sauvignon Blanc, prized as a wonderful companion for seafood dishes and lighter entrees. Lone Canary prides itself on producing great
wine at a fair price and a variety of wines that can compliment
every menu and be paired with any entrée. This is one
canary that sings beautifully! |
