Latah Creek, established in 1982 by Mike and Ellena Conway, is heralded by Wine Spectator Magazine as one of the top producers of Merlot in the State of Washington. A very picturesque setting for this small Spokane winery beckons an exploration as well as a tasting of award winning vintages. Tile walkways lead you through an arched entrance into a large courtyard suitable for picnics or just relaxing. Inside you will find a one-of-a-kind gift shop and a room-wide wine tasting bar. Latah Creek's award winning wines can be sampled at your leisure while you tour the adjoining winemaking facilities.

Mike Conway, with over 32 years of winery experience, and his wife Ellena work together to run this successful small winery in the relatively new viticultural region of central and eastern WA. While Mike assumes the management, winemaking and vineyard tasks, Ellena takes on all the accounting, special events and the running of the extensive gift shop located at the winery. Daughter, Natalie Conway-Barnes, is currently learning winemaking from dad and plans to be the future of Latah Creek Wine Cellars

The stylistic aim of the winery, is to create wines that taste like the grapes from which they came. This is accomplished by using traditional winemaking principles and by the selection of exceptional fruit. Latah Creek's award winning wines are made from grapes which come from two geographically different areas about 150 miles South and West of the winery. The vineyard producing grapes for their Merlot, Cabernet and Chardonnay, is located in Central Washington on the south facing hills of the Wahluke Slope. This region boasts the longest and warmest growing season in the Northwest. The reds produced are typically more full-bodied than from any other area in the state and can be easily identified by their inky-dark color.

The remaining grapes used come from two separate vineyards located in the southern end of the Yakima Valley, Slightly cooler than the Wahluke Slope, this area is noted for producing wines which are delicate and fruity in nature - lighter-styled whites excel. Subjecting the wines to the least amount of processing and handling possible enables these natural varietal flavors to remain intact from grape to bottle.

Latah Creek produces wines with natural balance and complexity, which provide a perfect compliment to food and absolute enjoyment by themselves.
