Tasting Room: Wednesday-Sunday, 12 PM - 5 PM and by appointment Knipprath Winery, a small family owned winery just east of town, is widely known for its production of Ports. Their Au Chocolate Port has made many a port and chocolate lover swoon! The winery and tasting room are housed in the historic old Parkwater Schoolhouse, located near the historic Felts Field Airport. A picnic area on the winery grounds and a large tasting room readily accommodate visitors and groups. The winery produces a variety of wines that are crafted and steeped in old-world tradition. Wine maker, Henning Knipprath, was born in Germany and raised in Southern California. His appreciation and interest in wines and viticulture grew as he studied wine making first in college and then in the vineyards of Germany. In 1991, with a desire to create a family enterprise and build on his wine interest, he founded Knipprath Winery. Henning along with his wife Patricia, his children and mother have gone on to craft several vintages of award winning wines and ports. Christa Knipprath is the tasting room manager and is available to take calls for any questions that you may have. True to its heritage, Knipprath Cellars employs methods of wine-making traditionally used in the various European wine regions. Emphasizing its goal of creating wines with a European flair, great care is taken in the selection of grapes and the processes that create a fine wine. Knipprath Cellars has successfully introduced the northwest to five special ports which include a chocolate style, vanilla style and white port that is reminiscent of ports served in Portugal. Knipprath sells its wines under the Mica Peak Label and the Werner-Ernst-Friedrich Label which is named after Henning's father and uncles.
